The Work Out Mix One

I created this mix to motivate myself to work out so don't expect any smooth transitions. Do prepare, however for some foot-in-yo-azz-and do it muzak starting with the Lamont Dozier classic "Going Back to My Roots" and my high school survival song "Jump" by Van Halen. Now my heart is pounding! How about some organic, Masters at Work groove with legendary Jocelyn Brown telling us "It's Alright"? Yeah , we cooking now. Next up is Goapele with "Closer"followed by "What A Wonderful World"(my current anthem, see last mixtape) and Black Joys' "Mercurian". I slow my workout down a bit with "I Can See" by Jazzanova and "Slowly " by Glen Underground then work my way back up with the Robert Owens' classsic four to the floor "I'll Be Your Friend" and close out with Dennis Ferrier"Run Free" and "NaNaNaNa" by Mike Dunn. Whewwww!

What A Wonderful Life-020909

Welcome to the 0020909 mixtape "What a Wonderful Life" starting off with "You Should Be Loving Me" from DJ Spinna feat. Ovasoul 7, followed by Miss Patty w/ "Getting To Know You" and the epic " I Can See" from Japan's Jazzanova. I was lucky to come across " Mercurian" by Black Joy; I looked at the label and read that it was 236 of 300 pressing. And it sounds great! I 'm really feeling more tech sounding muzak so I included the trippy "Aeroplane" from Mr. White and "One Desire " from Barbara Tucker, one of my favorite house divas. Did you know she sang on "Set It Off" ? Thats HISTORY right there. The king of Detoit style minimalist yet funky house, Moodyman spells it out with "Freeki Mutha..."followed by Ben(Everything But the Girl) Watt w/ "Guinea Pig"and the mixtape theme " What A Wonderful life" by house music legend Bob Sinclair feat. Axwell. Amp Fidler( also repping Motown AND PFunk alum) hits with "BlackHouse" and my international segment begins with "Flight " by Studio Apartment (from Japan)followed by Somi with "African Lady", "Let Me Love You" by Bunny Mack, "Don't Forget My Name" by Jesse Rose fet.Hot Chip and " It Washes Over Me" by Heather Johnson. Enjoy!

THE MIDNITE EXPRESS EPISODE 1

My first time out podcasting I decided on a mix both representative of my taste, and semi-autobiographical as well. I hope to connect to listeners since we all share similar experiences. The opening track,1984, is from Van Halen and marks the year I began making mixtapes to win over the hearts of young female listeners. One girl in particular gave me the 1984 album in exchange for one of my Prince mixes. I wore that cassette OUT! Thus my true passion for consuming and performing music was born. Next up is that new joint by 4Hero"Look Inside"followed by the classic "Soul Makassa" ,some Clash(and the Mos Def remake),some J*Davey and other surprises. Hit me up for a full list of songs or questions you may have.
